  1. I agree with ebjr here........most Ticos I know don't have credit, but if they have anything of real value, it is because they saved and paid cash!
  2. I'm with CRF all the way, except we will be at a different spot than she. The main thing is to be far from the 'madding crowd.' Fortunately, we don't have any particular health issues, and our attitude is that that would be a bridge to cross if/when we come to it.

The first post comes closer to what I remember reading, in that the luxury taxes will be on properties that cost more than a certain dollar amount overall, and had nothing to do with tub and closets............I would surmise that your architect just didn't want to be bothered with things that are not standard in Tico housing.
  5. Gee, Miss Vicky. Did you find all of that all by yourself? Did you not notice that this is a thread for discussion about real estate trends in Costa Rica, and NOT for sales pitches? Please put future sales pitches down where they belong, and leave areas like this for people to exchange ideas without being subjected to sales pitches.

Sorry, but the pedant in me requires that I inject this comment: It seems to me that it would be misleading to recommend Musica Ranchera as being connected to Costa Rica (by any sort of tradition) to one not familiar with Latin Music in general. Actually, Ranchera Music is traditional only to Northern Mexico, and has been adopted by other Latin cultures, the cowboys of Guanacaste included.

  8. Ultimately, it looks to me as if you waited too long to ask these questions. Did you not have a CR attorney to represent your interests at the time of purchase? That, unfortunately, is the first and foremost rule in buying property in CR. You say you now have hired an attorney, so I would guess your best bet is to hope like hell he/she is a good one. Meanwhile, from everything I have read and heard, to win out in any litigation, you will need the patience of Job, and a not inconsiderable sum of money.   9. Shea, you might be surprised at how affordable a CR attorney can be. I don't recall exactly where you are, but we use a lady in Guatuso who is very good, very reasonable, and very nice person besides!
  10. I think that CRF's response got less attention here than it should have gotten. (for one thing, M & J never responded to her). If these folks have not made sure that they will be legally able to teach in CR, rent vs. buy, house vs. apt., and other options become moot. I think they should make sure that they have gotten past that hurdle before they worry about where to live.

  14. Ken is correct: there is no such thing as a Dental Insurance (imho) that is worth the cost, anywhere! As for having the law to protect the patient in the U. S., that is not necessarily the case any more: First of all, thanks to Dubya, in Texas, there is no longer any real legal recourse for victims of medical malpractice, and has not been one since he was governor. He and his buddies put into place a "cap" on malpractice lawsuits that essentially makes it not worth the effort, so lawyers will not take this kind of case any more - and, they haven't ever since he got that bill passed.
