Is Atenas a nice place to live? Close enough to all the amenities but cheaper than Escazu or Santa Ana? Where are the Canadian/American retiree enclaves?

Hi Dona
Really, there are literally hundreds of beautiful places here, and nobody can advise you. You have to come here and live for 6 to 12 months and explore. Anything less and you will most certainly overpay AND find out you bought in the wrong location

As TG has stated, there is no shortage on beautiful area to live in Costa Rica.
All of them have something different to offer.
If you love kitesurfing, look at Salinas, if you love mountain and nature, find something inland or quiet places by the beach which are still untouched.
Let us know what kind of area you would like to live in, and we might be able to point you into the right direction.

Don A, my sis & bro in law live in Atenas, its a nice quiet small town and they are quite happy there. There are many properties available there, you just need to go and look.
You also might try the Grecia & Sarchi area too.
Look online, or when you are in CR, go there and look at listings for sale on local bulletin boards.
Good luck, Dana J
