Those figures are just numbers and have no meaning or value. Basically play money called fiat. As long as you have friends, family, and can take care of each other there really isn't anything to be scared of. There are cities in the us and around the globe that are now printing their own money in the form of promissory notes which basically the us dollar is and are trading their own form of money (notes) among themselves. people that want to believe the fed is ruling things are only agreeing that it can to do so. If the dollar fails you will see how quickly things get straightened out among ourselves.

Nope I wasn't there but I guess you were. No I guess you weren't. It had nothing to do with fiat debt.

When the value of the US dollar hits rock bottom, and people can't buy food, (due to inflation caused by printing money with no value), how are friends and family going to assist you? Remember how Hitler came to power - massive inflation with the currency worth nothing!!!

Whats the matter? No imagination? What did people do before the US dollar even existed? Darwin was right. Only the adaptable survive. Think about it. Are you so tied into the dollar you can't understand that everything you have is in your self. Maybe your family and friends are as dependent on the same things that you seem to be. The people that survived Hitler got out before all hell broke loose. The ones that didn't couldn't change enough to survive. Brutal but true as evidence that the Israelis are not about to get into the same situation again. They learned what survival means the hard way. Just think about it. The dollar is only as valuable as it is by agreement. Promissory notes. Anybody can issue promissory notes. They will be as valuable as what people will agree to the value. As for gold, tough to eat it when you are hungry. There are other things that are more tradeable than gold. Your skills for one example. I guess one could become a highwayman with those guns that have been suggested. Now thats risky. And as far as God, he helps those that help themselves. Now lets see you turn it around and turn helping yourself, into taking from others.

HA ..... as long as the printing presses can keep up, I don't see what the big deal is ...... :) .....

Seriously though, if there is one time that it is okay to print money it is in the face of a deflationary spiral. It is deflation in the Home markets that is killing the US economy. How do you fight deflation? With inflation. How do you cause inflation? By printing money. The risk is in printing too much and over shooting the target.

The other thing that people usually miss with these debt clocks is that it is not really relevant to look at the Gross Number. What is important is what is the debt as a % of the Gross National Product. In other words, how big is the debt as in relationship to the over all economy? That is what is relevant. It is alright for the debt to grow as long as the economy grows, because with a growing economy comes increased taxing power. Until recently, that percentage has pretty much stayed within a range over the last 50 or so years.

Obviously that has changed recently. There is risk with a growing debt in a stagnant economy. Thank God the government can print money. What is happening now is that the government has fired up the printing presses and we are printing and spending to fight off the deflation that is wiping out home equity and thus destabilizing our entire financial system.

Like everyone i have been watching the news and reading the papers and trying to read the deluge of emails containing the relevant, irrelevant political infomation as well as the jokes. My plan now is to bring some tin cups and #2 pencils to C/R for the coming slowdown. Does anyone know if panhandling would be legal for us gringos......Would we be depriving a Tico/Tica from a job. I didn't see many panhandlers on my several trips to C/R. Would one have to have a permit? or perhaps lease the street corner where they panhandled? john
