Justin,

The only one I can think of is Medical Transcriptionist.

Hopefully, other people will come up with more suggestions.

Here's where you can find the book, How To Become A Medical Transcriptionist: www.amazon.com.

Hi Laura:

Are you a Medical Transcriptionist working from home? I am also looking for online job/business that will create stable income to live in Costa Rica. I thought about studying to become one, but wasn't sure the likelihood of ACTUALLY being able to work from home. That is why I'm still sitting at my cubicle checking into ARCR forum daydreaming about living in Costa Rica! Any info will helps. Thank you,

Yes there are many things which you can do by just sitting at home to earn your livelihood. There are Home Based Business System which can help you earn a good income and make you financially strong. You just have to be aware of the right ones for you and be willing to devote time so that you can get the knowledge better that will help you to be successful in the business.

I have checked out at least hundreds, probably thousands of these claims. In the 10 years I have been looking I know _one_ person making a living online. He has an ebay store and he is spending more and more time and making less and less money lately due to their excessive increases in fees.

The rest have all been scams.

I agree with MD.........the only ones who make money working at home, do indeed, really work, and usually they are in the direct employ of a large company. I, for instance, work at home as a Telephonic Case Manager, for a large Healthcare Company (nationwide) that provides services to large insurance companies. My son-in-law, who works for a large bank, just started working from home, essentially calling folks who owe money, and are late with their payments. Other than this kind of work, there may be a smattering of folks who have stumbled on various home-based businesses, but these will indeed suffer, as MD also pointed out, not only with increased fees from places like Ebay, but also PayPal, et al......I think it will take a very imaginative person to come up with a way to make a living online, from a home in CR..........and, even if they do come up with it, they will still have to satisfy the legal requirements for residence.

I'd like to add another note about Medical Transcriptionists. Over the years, I have met ---one---who does it from her home. This is a profession that has many levels of expertise. The woman I know has 30+years of experience and continued education. New graduates of Med Trans programs generally have a tough time finding an "entry" level position at a hospital or physicians office. It's just not that simple. Unfortunately the TV ads make it seem like instant riches with little effort, all in the comfort of your jammies and slippers....again, the only ones getting rich are the guys who wrote the books...jp

Markchie,

Actually, I'm not a Medical Transcriptionist working from home.

I did seriously consider the option.

The main reason I decided not to pursue working at home as a Medical Transcriptionist is because my husband and I decided that we don't need the extra money.

Hopefully, Medical Transcription worked out for some people.

The book, How To Be A Medical Transcriptionist, seems to be a good book.

Before making a decision, be sure to read the other members' posts about their opinion about Medical Transcription.

I'm a software developer who has worked exclusively from home for the past 4 years (contract, not as a real employee). I've never met any of my coworkers face to face, and never had to travel for work, while making the same as most developers who do. That said, I did spend more than 10 years learning the trade, and I have no guarantee that work will always be available. I'm thinking about moving, but I need an expanded client base in case my main customers fold or have no work, etc. I know some people that have online stores, but they typically have a real factory to produce the goods. I have some medical software background, and MTs have no future, I would look elsewhere. Translation services maybe? Problem is always going to be sales though. It's hard to network exclusively online.

There are many people that use the internet to work from home. Heck, I know people that are making good money with Ebay businesses (Ebay business will not work from CR). I am not sure I agree that most that work from home work for established companies, but I could be wrong.

I know a surfer dude in Santa Teresa that is making a killing with an online furniture store. How he makes it work I have no idea, but I know for a fact that is exactly what he is doing.

I have a close friend in AZ that is doing well with an on line boutique that she started just 6 months ago.

THe key is that you really need to understand the internet and how to drive traffic to your web site. It is a lot of work and it takes a lot of time. I do a lot of that in my business and I essentially work from home. What we have is essentially home based business. My situation is a little different in that I have a network of 12 professionals working with me that are also working from home. We use a home based business approach as a competitive strategy for keeping our fixed costs to an absoulte minimum.

I do agree that they key is that you have to WORK! I often find myself frequently working fro 6 AM to 11 PM.

Hello? Let's think in terms of apple carts here folks. People make killings with stupid little blogs by getting a cent a click on all the ads they get on their blogs. The idea is to give a market what it wants and to take the profits. If you're looking to work for someone else, surely you can forget making money. That's always the case, but especially on the internet. You either think like an entrepreneaur or you go under. Fast.

My brother in the US makes a killing on eBay (rare records), but shipping and new inventory would be a problem from CR. Surely there is something you can get and then sell here, but a buddy hasn't had much luck with gourmet coffee. I know some guys who do Viagra and met some guys who do porn. Welcome to the global economy.

Justin, do your research and fill a demand. There are many ways, but if you don't take your time choosing what to do and do what has been done a million times, it can be frustrating competing with those who have been in the business a lot longer and know what works and what doesn't.
