I need a referral. I'm going to San Jose Costa Rica in Feb 2008 for Dental work and I have no idea who to see. Anyone have any good recommendations? I'll need an English speaking office, one that does Cosmetic Dentistry, Crowns, implants and bone grafts.

Someone out there must have experienced something good to share. I’ll welcome any input or referral. Thanks

Hello Gabriell,

I'm not sure where you will be staying once you get to Costa Rica or if you will be traveling. I live in Samara which is 5 hours from Costa Rica. I use a Dentist here and he is amazing! I'm not sure how much you know about Costa Rica or the Doctors here but I can tell you by experience that I have yet to have a problem. They are all very, very nice and helpful. Both my Dentist and Primary Doctor speak good English.

Even better....it is VERY cheap here. For instance, I had to cavities completed/filled and the total cost for $60.00.

Hope this helps even just a little. Feel free to email me with any questions you may have. Always willing to help! :-)

James

Hello everyone, I've been to CR 10 times now, and I feel I have found one of the best Dentist around.

He has two offices, first one in Escazu, the second office is in San Pedro, the traffic is rough anytime of day there. He speaks prefect english as some of his nurses, they treat you with a lot of care and concern.

I have plates in at this time to get my jaw back in full use, he would explain that if you have any teeth missing in the lower jaw.

I am having implants done on the 17th of this month. If you need a place to rest up for a few days (the Doc likes too check on you at least 7 to 14 days), he can tell you about a facility that has 24/7 nurses that will check on you unitl you get back on your feet, something like a private recoup center, something like that, I think, anyway I'll find out on the 17th.

This dentist received his dregree for Master en Prostodoncia, Universidad de Indiana!

Name --CLINICA GIL, Doctors name Dr, Lucas Gil J. M. Sc. D

P# San Pedro----506-283-0045

P# Escazu--------506-288-6060

I hope this give you a idea of where too check into

Hello Eagle-

I too, am looking almost "Agressively" for a "REASONABLE, GOOD IMPLANT Dentist, to place implants in lower and upper gums, to hold Dentures in place.

Naturally, I would be looking for a nice clean, reasonably priced facility to "hole up" after the procedure(s), but-I will only have about 2-3 weeks of time to devote to this, once I arrive.

I'll keep an eye on your postings to see how you fare (and offer "moral (or, morale) support).

I've been w/o any dentures, because I was so disillusioned with these American Dentists, and their monopolistic pricing; "seems like they are all mostly reading from the same catalog of pricing pages"...why, they appear not to even deviate from a set standard.

No wonder Dental and Medical is "popping" like crazy South of our Borders (in Mexico and Central and South America)...they're reasonable, offer amentities, and actually have down home folk atmosphere.

I was talking with a lady and her gentleman friend approximately one week previous, and they had receive dtheir Medical and Dental Implant care in Spain...they were very impressed with both the experience, the pricing and the demeanor of their Host Dentist and Physcian(s).

I am a retired Veternarian, and a Disabled Veteran....I always become interested, and excited for other folks that have good experiences, and have discovered these various occupations that treat folks with dignity, and like "family", instead of a business accouterment.

When I was an active Vet, I tried to be reasonably priced for folks (not based upon other Vets in the area or region, or "suggested" pricing), I was pleased with my experiences.

So again, I'll keep an eye out for your experiences, and this will aid me in searching for the right Dentist for my implants and dentures.

OH, I'm sorry....I should have asked...that is, if you don't mind if I was to follow your experience(s), would you?

Thanks Much,

Al

I have lived here since 1992 and have utilized the same dentist for all those years. My trusted lawyer's wife is related to this dentist and I have never seen a foreigner in his waiting room. On August 9, 2007, I visited him in San Jose. Dr. Rodolfo Hernandez Romero who is a 60+ years old, educated in Michigan and he examined my teeth and then (the dentist not a hygienist) cleaned my teeth. 1st he used his hydrostatic pressure cleaner. 2nd he scraped the teeth with the metal pick. Finally he polished my teeth with his electronic buffer using a very tasty gel. Cost was 10,000 colones for each step. So it cost me $58 for the exam and cleaning. During his exam he discovered that I had pitting on the front of several teeth which he said probably was caused by brushing horizontally over the years instead of vertically. He recommended applying the highest quality filling material that is manufactured in Lichtenstein to cover the craters. Cost for the preparation and installing the imported filler is $58.00 per tooth. His son in the same office is a dental implant specialist.

This week a friend from Florida staying at the Presidente Hotel in San Jose who came here specifically to have 6 implants installed and this is his 2nd trip to have this work completed by the same dentist. During his 1st trip he had 2 implants and crowns installed and the total procedure took 3 days. The dentist arranged for hotel and transport from the airport and daily for the office visits. The cost he paid is $500 per tooth for titanium steel covered with bone material implants. The actual procedure takes less than 30 minutes per tooth. The impressions and the porcelain crowns cost $250 each. This dentist makes the crowns right in his office so my friend had the impression made on Monday and the crowns installed on Tuesday. This dentist charges $70 for deep cleaning. My friend said that this dentist, educated at the U of Missouri, who does the implants as well as his son who takes the impressions and installs the crowns are not only professionals but great people as well. The dentist is Dr. Marco A Munoz Cavallini. http://www.aestheticdentistrycr.com
