  1. Thanks Mark.....the rules of the world are going to have to change if we are going to be able to contribute and survive in it......The complexities that third world countries try to copy sometime are a little much and do not serve the populace.....unfortunately most bureacracys have little constraints and difficult correction procedures......take the U. S. for example........john
  2. Tico Grande.... Some of us are more than a year behind but we do appreciate your contribution.......and it has been more than a few years that you have done this.....some of us are just slow in saying THANKS......!!! john
  3. The money determines where things go.....when the bubble bursts and etc. Humans are gullible by nature and without the losers there would be no winners.......Well Said Paul.......Thanks........john
  4. Mark......thanks for your feedback and suggested thread. I corrected it somewhat. The question you proposed is......."Can anyone reccomend a good real estate agent? The reply was " there are no good real estate agents in C/R! Hire a good lawyer"........THE REPLY SHOULD BE...................... There are no good lawyers in C/R! The one my friend hired hasn't got back to me yet but when he does I will email the info to you. The benefits for real estate agents and lawyers in the years to come are mind boggling here......but my take in the year and a half i have been trying to find out information leads me to believe......as most people have found out.......The real estate agents and the lawyers are no different than the average man in the street......They want you $$$$ for as little as they have to produce...... Sad but it appears to be the consensus.......Please someone say it isn't so and post the evidence to prove it........Provide us with those competent and caring real estate people and lawyers...........Mark....thanks for you posts and input.....have enjoyed and been further illuminated..........john
  5. People in the real estate business in C/R may have an opportunity presented to them in the very near future unparrallel in very few other places in the world. C/R has done an excellent job of promoting itself to the rest of the world and they share this excellent opportunity. But........unless someone figures out that the opportunity lies in treating people as people and not as $$$$ signs then the opportunity will come to naught. A lot of bad publicity is circulating on this forum and others about realtors and the government. My friends, anxious to come to C/R and retire or invest now have second thoughts. Some have made a few trips, talked to real estate people, tried to find out pertinent information from Goverment sources and come to me shrugging their shoulders... you can message me and i will elaborate. Or express your thoughts and ability to provide services and etc. for the wave of people I see moving or visiting there in the coming years......I will personally beat the drums for any service related agency that wishes to make moving to, retiring to and in general gives a crap about making C/R a better place for us all........john
  6. email jim cameron at bocajim1@gmail.com. He owns osapenensulaproperties.com. Trusted person in your area with locals and gringos alike. He should be able to advise and help you with these problems or point you to someone who can. john
  7. Sadly it will not be over tomorrow.....Based on my take on the history of the debacles of our system over the past few decades I will be too old to do what I wanted to go to C/r to do in the first place and now I am having a hard time recollecting what that is until I read the forum for a few days. I think we should all go and find an old B and B or motel needing refurbing, not doing much business and lease it for a year. We can all get together there, fix it up a bit, clean out the pool and wait for our dream property to come on the market, meanwhile having the pleasure of each others company and being able to leave when its time with a lot of new insight. The forum is great but a little more social activity would be better....just my thoughts... john
  8. If you believe that the recession is over, that its all under control......then in the 60's you also believed that with the advent of the computer we would all be going to 4 day work weeks and the little woman could come back home and take care of the kids. If you will go back and look at history, look at the last few recessions you will see that the confidence necessary to bring things back to normal, much less to have them get above the current inflationary spiral is many more years than have passed since this fiasco started. Suggestion.........again......!!!!.....Wait.......all the houses in C/R will not be sold and nothing left to buy by the end of the year.....RENT!!!!.....LOOK AROUND FOR THE RIGHT NEIGHBORHOOD.......Make a few offers. C/R as Paul suggests has not come into the real world conditions......The sellers and their agents are still hopers..........3 land sales in my area, the last 3 years.......Fortunately we do not have any high rise buildings here so the fatalities among real estate people and developers have been few......thanks paul..........john
  9. Amen Jimmy........about $1200. last time I checked. For those who are weathy or who only expect to come back to the states once a year......not a problem......but for us 3-4-5 time traveleers..it can get quite expensive.......john
  10. Laura.........I have to echo kens post here........friend lived there for a couple years.......came back to the states with some storys....won't repeat them here but......you definintely don't want to go there or to Asia......just my thought. I personally like C/r, Nicarargra and Panama are touted but think......settle in C/R and you can get to these countrys rather easily without a lot of expense and check for yourself. A compound in other countrys for us footloose and undecided expats might be a good idea. Chile except for the air fare might be a good spot as some other non-mentioned countrys.....but......after I buy Ken the Mercedes I won't have much left over so will have to depend on the other forum members to get the compound started.......john
  11. Jimmy......I understand they did raze some of the beach structures on the Osa pennensula some years back close to the panamanian border.....But have not been back into this area since the 80's so don't know. Jims son Trevor is at osapenunsulaproperties.com and may have some info as well as Jim. He is on site year round now according to Jim. lAt any rate I would exercise caution in buying. Rent for awhile....get to know the locals, listen to them and then amke your decision accordingly. I know of many people screwed....and not by locals......by us Gringos......Sad but true. john
  12. I have some interest in the Sierpe River area near these towns you inquired about. This is the end of the world for most but of interest to me as it is out of the way and free from some of the problems that other, more populated areas have. The Sierpe River is a navigable river and accessible to the pacific with a good sized boat. Sierpe is a small town but can provide some North American Amenities...so I'm told by......Jim Cameron, bocajim1@gmail.com He's been there 20 odd years and will gladly email you and give you some answers to this area. If he doesn't.......message me and we will get it straightened out. john
  13. Many of the rest of us see you as a person also.....a person with something to contribute and a willingness to do so. Your post in the Kingdom is still open if the decree is We gotta go with the King.....but keep this in mind.....I don't think I can last a full term......so if your name is in the pot ........well.........keep postin..........john
  14. I BELIEVE THAT MANY OF US WOULD WELCOME THE OPPORTUNITY TO COMBINE WHAT WE KNOW WITH COSTA RICAS EXPERTS AND INSTITUTIONS. MUCH WORK HAS BEEN DONE IN THESE VARIOUS FIELDS BY ALL COUNTRYS. THE PROBLEM HAS BEEN IN GETTING THE INFORMATION INTO THE GENERAL PUBLIC, EASILY AND UNDERSTANDABLY TO THOSE WHO HAVE THE ABILITY AND MOTIVATION TO ADD IT TO THEIR KNOWLEDGE AND MOVE US ALL FORWARD IN OUR THINKING. AGREED MY SUGGESTION WOULD BE THAT RATHER THAN US ASK (I HAVE COUNTLESS EMAILS TO MANY, MANY GOVERNMENTAL AGENCYS WITH LITTLE REPLY) IS THAT WE SET UP A BUILDING FORUM (CAN BE A PART OF THIS WEBSITE OR ANOTHER OR JUST AN EMAIL ADDRESS........THAT YOU ASK THESE QUESTIONS FOR US AND POST. IN THIS WAY WE CAN BEGIN TO COMMUNICATE THESE IDEAS THAT WE ALL HAVE. UNTIL WE ALL UNDERSTAND WE HAVE A COMMON GOAL LIFE ON THIS PLANET WILL NOT GET ANY BETTER. .............john
  15. Like everyone i have been watching the news and reading the papers and trying to read the deluge of emails containing the relevant, irrelevant political infomation as well as the jokes. My plan now is to bring some tin cups and #2 pencils to C/R for the coming slowdown. Does anyone know if panhandling would be legal for us gringos......Would we be depriving a Tico/Tica from a job. I didn't see many panhandlers on my several trips to C/R. Would one have to have a permit? or perhaps lease the street corner where they panhandled? john
  16. Avery........I have a few things planned, different from what is presently available at very high prices and that in most instances does not work as I understand sustainable living. I have some contacts on these developments and some that "at least attempts to"and will gladly share them with you and the forum but my information is not an endorsement.....it would be just what I know is proposed. I would be interested in your and other forum members ideas about what you think a development that is considered eco[friendly and sustainable living amounts to......message me and i will elaborate....... john
  17. Laura......I had planned to home school my two children. There are pluses and minuses. Message me if I can add anything to your dilema.....john
  18. Gerald.....message me if you like.......I traded with a guatamalan local for years and wanted to do some business there but for whatever reason......it didn't work out. My feeling is that we all have golden opportunity in C/R but need to realize that we are visitors in their country until such time as we become residents. john
  19. " DREAMING DOESN'T ALWAYS MAKE A DREAM COME TRUE" Pam.......my grandmother told me when I was but a young lad that "if one did just one good thing to make anothers life better their star would shine brighter in heaven". I believe that David and I and maybe some of the others with a little help will be able to pick yours out. "DREAMING DOESN'T ALWAYS MAKE A DREAM COME TRUE"... The title for our upcoming Video documentary......as soon as Andy gets thru messing around....(tongue in cheek). What a great opportunity exists for us all to care a little more about each other. Thanks again Pam for reminding us of this.....john
  20. Pam........when Andy Brown stops foolling around with the Videos.......you and i are going to talk about putting out some documentarys about the things that most gringos want to know about C/R. Thanks again for all your posts.........john
  21. Thanks Paul......I thought it was me.....I will read the Bienaanz book, "The Ticos" as will my friends when i am done. All of us need to understand the culture we move into or deal with before trying to impose our Gringo ways.......thanks for your posts and enlightenment. john
  22. Miami......please post regularly that things do not happen in C/R like in the U.S. That there are lots of folks who wish to dump the problems of property they have on someone else. No one is in charge....If it isn't Oz it is close to it. I have been asking questions for a year and a half and I am amazed at the information that is printed is different from the information that is told....is it just me??????john
  23. There are some posts on the New lake Arenal forum between Fred Morgan, Fincaleola properties and myself on this same subject. The forum is free and you can access the rather long thread between him and I outlining what is needed. I understand there is not a universal country rule but rather each provience has its own rules....john
  24. There are so many......caught between us who give a crap........and those who would like to come and contribute.......I deal with it everyday on a local basis. Common sense, logic does not apply anymore. In order to do anything we must ask permission from the Bureaucrats. Supposidly there are supposed to have better information for us to apply ouselves in a more efficient and positive manner. I was told today that altho the people in the bureacracy agree with me that the rules (no doubt drated by a layyer in Newport Beach, CA)prohibit them from signing off on what makes sense to all. And so our world continues to disentegrate......agrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.....anyone with the answer please message me......thanks.....john p.s.....when the end comes M/D and Laura......you are welcome at my place to pitch your tents..
