  1. Glad it has been a positive experience!
  2. Having bars on the window give the birds a place to perch...
  3. David is quite right. One of the reasons people that rent out homes or have a B&B for example, tend to have it in a S.A, is that if someone drowns in their pool, they personally won't be held responsible.
  4. Our former workers vehicle was considered 'totaled' and it took over three years to settle.
  5. It is also very slow if only using the basic mandatory coverage.
  6. "DEADLINES: August 31, 2017 Payment of unpaid back taxes on companies from 2012 to 2015 will not bear interest or penalties if paid on or before Thursday, August 31, 2017. After this date interest and penalties will be charged".
  7. Have you previously done some running in the areas of interest that you mention?
  8. We got hugs too! We delivered lots of home made treats to all the staff at the local CAJA clinic, the bank, the post office, police station, a couple of private businesses and of course, friends in the community.
  9. Income Property?

Where we used to live on the farm, there was 3 additional houses built with the intention of renting them out. However, it has not been a success, due to the location and the rates charged. Location, location, location
  10. Income Property?

Terry...I wrote and deleted the same comments.
  11. Just yesterday, a Tico friend who sells real estate... ...specializing in large farms and/or ranches, and a American who he was doing some additional business with and who had purchased a very large piece of property with large building on it, (the former Aloe Vera site) filled with various pieces of equipment, office furniture, A/C's etc. returned to find it totally empty. This was not the agreement, but the brother-in-law of one of the owners, on his own, removed everything, including light bulbs. This morning, lawyers started proceedings against him. Luckily the new owner had photos of every room in the building.
  12. Years ago, after Clinton left office, one of his former advisors left the US after purchasing our coffee farm and additional land where he built a beautiful home. They always complained about something or somebody, and they eventually sold their 'exclusive' property and returned to Arkansas 4 years ago. I know they gained residency here and wonder where they will head to, this time around...
  13. Getting residency in Canada is more difficult in Canada than in Costa Rica...
  14. TAMARINDO REAL ESTATE 2016

Updated info added for the link above. Many more rentals obviously available.
  15. Eco Casas builders

Yes...probably following his instructions when this person, doesn't have a clue... He stopped by here when back in the area on vacation and told us that the builders messed up his instructions...
  16. Eco Casas builders

Our house is not a typical block house, and the roof/ceiling in the sitting & dining room rises from 11ft. to approx. 15ft. high. The worst part seems to be where gypsum...yes, gypsum... was attached to the wood on top of the cement, the crown I think it is called, concealing the underneath of the overhang and where it is close to the wide gutter which then empties into a normal sized downspout which have a lot of trouble getting rid of the amount of rain when it really rains hard. Which it has been doing for the past week. The house was originally owned by a man from Norway using local builders.

In our rental home, we have a termite problem. They installed wooden roof trusses, which have now rotted and the termites are having a picnic... The landlord came today to see how much damage has been done and what he will need to do to fix it. Glad we don't have to foot the bill... ...and since it is a large house, it won't be a cheap fix. Now, most builders use metal trusses.
  18. TAMARINDO REAL ESTATE 2016

There are so many rentals available throughout the country, now that companies like airbnb, flipkey, etc are operating. Many prefer these since that may not have to pay additional taxes...
  19. Anyone have any info on where I can drop or donate boxes of used books in the area around Coco?
  20. Thanks Carol. Since we do occasionally go to Coco, I thought it would be easier to find locations where there are more expats, as in our town we are just about all there is....
  21. Good idea and thanks...but no libraries around here.
  22. No...this law will may be soon reinstated according to the local media. There are more recent articles but you will have to search for them...8-)
  23. Make sure that you can actually work on your own quad...and it doesn't require a certified brand mechanic to perform some pretty basic servicing.
